The history
The Rotherhithe Peninsula was home to the Surrey Docks that thrived throughout the nineteenth century. Many of the old London docks were filled in during the 1970s but part of the old Canada Dock survived and is now known as Canada Water. The location
The two sites lie at the heart of the Canada Water area and, purchased by Conrad Phoenix in 2002, they cover approximately 3 hectares (7.5 acres)
Site C – the site is bounded to the east by the Surrey Quays Road, to the north by the Albion Channel, to the south by Surrey Quays Shopping Centre service yard and to the west by the Canada Water basin and adjacent public footpath. It is currently occupied by two single storey retail warehouses, which house the sports goods retailer Decathlon and a large area of under-utilised surface car parking.
Site E – the west border of the site runs along Surrey Quays Road, with the north fronting onto Canada Street. To the south, the site is bounded by Harmsworth Quays and above that on the east border, Mulberry Business Centre. The site is currently housing the ‘What Retail’ warehouse and some surface car parking.
